The Mysterious Tale of The "Montauk Monster"

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

--Montauk, NY: Ditch Plains beach at the tip of Long Island is a world-famous surfing locations. The proximity to Montauk Point and the swirling rip around the Lighthouse pump out a steady stream of perfect waves for East Coast surfers.

The swirling rips and eddies also deposit a wide variety of debris on the beach. And nothing was more bizarre than the bloodless body that washed up in the Summer of 2008. Dubbed the "Montauk Monster" by locals, the creature bore no visible resemblance to any of the local wildlife. Local scientists were quick to dismiss the body as a cat or dog, but the rumors and stories persisted.

One of the most popular rumors was that the carcass had escaped from the nearby Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center. Theories rose that it was a genetic experiment that somehow escaped the lab, but they soon died down. Then, a local cable news re

ree

porter gained access to the secret Plum Island facility. He was not allowed to film the facility, or remove anything from the facility. He did, however, hear a rumor of a dead animal that was given a "Viking Funeral" and set out to sea. Could this be the true origin of the Montauk Monster? Shortly after the body appeared, it mysteriously vanished, so no further examination was ever possible.
